Father's Day

I don't know what I'd do without holidays. Where would my craftiness end up otherwise?

But I do find making something up for the guys is the most challenging. Perhaps if I just had more guy dies, embossing folders and brads etc it would be a little easier. I don't even have a sentiment stamp for Father's day so I hand wrote it..... oooh I anticipate a shopping spree lurking in the winds!!!!!

But I do have a few toys good for the boys! The guys won't know that's a flower in the middle of the gear right????

This one's an embossing folder using one of those shiny, metal looking, green paper sheets from dollarama. Gold Alcohol inked before it was run thru.

You can just barely see the lost Tim Holtz stamp on the inside of the card. Liz.... from the ATT group heard my cries over losing it and dropped  one in the mail for me.  Sent it cross the border so I could once again be a happy crafter! Bless her. She not only sent me the one stamp but a whole slew of others as well. The package barely fit in my mailbox! Hey....I just realised that they can be used for guy cards.... omg.... Liz you're the greatest!! xxxxxx

K, so I'm gonna stop posting now and go make some more guy cards for Fathers Day. I wonder how many I can get in before midnight?

Graduation hat cards

This summer brings a graduation day for my oldest son.And it's times like these when I'm kinda glad I have a son and not a girl....it's waaay cheaper on the budget lol.

Recently tried a diamond fold card and discovered it looked, or could look, like a nice
graduation hat.
Here's a tut from youtube, altho there are shorter videos.... here
Very simple to make, altho I had to make my own tassels out of embroidery thread. I did steel one from a book mark, but it was red and wanted it to be black. So I dragged it thru my archival black ink pad. Not too messy a process as I used an acrylic block to push the tassel into the ink. Then I set it outside for it to dry. But the rest of them I did make from embroidery thread, of various colors and left them their original color.

I also had to make my own envelopes. I just used a 4 X 11 piece of card stock. Scored it for a nice crisp fold, and then some scoring just to make a simple design along to 2 edges. I opted not to glue the sides together.

Match book of Paraprosdokians!

What's a paraprodokian you ask? It's a term for a figure of speech in which a sentence or phrase has an unexpected or surprising ending.

I wanted to make something that could be easily carried around and easily referenced to in case of a "I'm in need of a chuckle emergency".

So I copied the layout of a match book, cut and scored a piece of grunge paper. It got heavily inked, but didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it. In the end I had a ribbon to match, so all is well. I also tried cutting up a cereal box and glued paper to it, but it was too thick to fold like a match book ( it needs some flexibility), so I went back to the grunge paper.

I printed off these paraprokokians in different fonts and colors, and cut them out with different crazy sissors and glued them onto a cut up Space calendar. The paper from the calendar was just the right thickness and had a glossy finish to each photo of the month, so it worked out well for this project.

Here's a few of the pages.

Once all was decorated, I got out my trusty staple gun and stapled everything together at the very bottom. The ribbon hides the staple.

Who Cares

Simple and to the point! Who cares....I'm Retired! So the card is simple and to the point too!

The cricut cut my frame, the computer printed the sentiments, the cuttlebug cut the roses, MS edge punch, with a simple satin ribbon, and for the inside: a pocket watch stamp and Tim Holtz " Alphabetical Dccorative strip" die for the falling numbers.

Happy Retiement Eunice!

Mother's Day Wreath of Ribbon

Happy Mom's Day to my Mom. Who still after nearly 50 years of having her first child, she still tirelessly gives herself to us and puts herself second. Always has just what we need to make our days go a little bit better. Sometimes it's being a babysitter and entertainer, or lending her car, or giving those all encouraging words, or giving compliments on every single artsy thing I do - good or bad, or a telephone call to go shopping ( or yes, even a txt, she's an "up with the times" kinda Mom/Granny, ...she's also a Registered Nurse and so gives medical advice with one phone call, or you know- just saving the day! She's a blessing to have as a Mom....Love her more every year!

This one's for you:

Altered Whiskey Bottle

The cool thing about this bottle is that it already came with a crown lid, and gold too. So, of course, it had to be Tim Holtz inspired with chains and manly embellishments.

The bottle was prepared...after drinking the contents, with a coat of  Seal Glue. Then after it dried, it got a good thick coat of crackle paint, different color on the reverse. I stamped the lion using archival ink onto tissue paper and glued that onto the bottle. The wings are made of grunge paper, inked and stamped and embellished with a set of metal wings I got from Walmart. I still think there's more I can cram on here, but nothing in my stash worked. So this will likely be altered some more.

This is metal heart is from a necklace I got from Dollarama. The velvet neck piece had broken off, but I kept the charm. I also stamped it with the same written stamp and used some gold alcohol inks on it and the black pearl above it. The little charm on the end of the chain is actually a little wee botton. Lastly I glued a paper clip, also Alcohol Inked in gold to tone down the already black and white clip. A tag just for fun.

Wreath of ribbon

Today's card is for a friends 90th birthday. Just the other day I did one for 80th. Wow...they sure have lived a long and healthy life. Congrats to and Happy Birthday to them.

Here's the You Tube link to create this wreath from Ribbon. It really is quite simple!
Next time I'll use a much fatter ribbon for the bow, I think, or more of the same. But as usual, I've also used my hand made roses, the swiss dot embossing folder, as well the printer on vellum for the sentiment.

Wedding Book Card Misty Green and Yellow

I'm so thankful for Simon Says Stamp for putting my order to the top of the pile for mailing out my order pronto. Once my new Spellbinders Floral Oval die was in stock, it was delivered in plenty of time to complete this wedding card and got to BC before the wedding. What a beautiful die. (why did they ever name these things "die" anyways ???? Doesn't make for good sentence meanings! Especially if you use it like I just did or...Tim Holtz dies, or Caged  Bird dies. If you weren't familiar with the product line, you'd read it and your heart would skip a beat!)

Anyways.....this one is already one of my very fav. dies. I'll be using it alot. (see next 2 posts as well) Along with that, I've hand made, inked and shimmered misted each rose. Each with a pearl in the center. Punched out some leafs. Cricut cut some swirlies. Added half pearls here and there. And used a wedding cake charm. The greens and yellows are the wedding colors.

Blessing to the Bride and Groom....hope today was all you planned for!

Constructed to look like a Bible

This one was about 10" by 8.5" so I had to construct a box for it. I used a heavy duty
designer paper and then stamped and embellished that with some Perfect Pearls to make it shine!

Wedding Book Card Black and White

This was my first attempt at a book card. It has lots of designer paper and sheet of vellum, heat embossing of the edges, tissue flowers die cut with Tim Holtz Florals, lots of pearls, and a wedding cake charm. The verse is computer generated. The colors are that of the wedding. I hope they had a great day today.

Next time I'll pay closer attention to how the font style can alter the look of a letter....in this case the V looks like a D. But otherwise a very pretty font.

I constructed a box envolope for the card.

A place on the back of the card to write the givers own sentiments. I used photo corners so that the paper within could be replaced if there was a mistake made on it.

Floral Ovals and Hand Painted Roses

My latest toy is from Spellbinders...just love this one. It's soooo pretty. This card was custom ordered to have handpainted flowers and glitter...with a blue theme. Also used here is the Swiss Dot embossing folder and a computer generated sentiment onto vellum.

Another card/project coming using the Floral Orals tomorrow. Today is the wedding, so I will post it after the vows have been taken!
